Teltonika RUT901 Industrial 4G LTE Dual SIM RouterThe Teltonika RUT901 is a compact industrial 4G LTE Cat 4 router built for IoT, M2M, and industrial automation deployments. It delivers 150 Mbps downlink over dual SIM with automatic WAN failover, four Fast Ethernet ports, and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi in a rugged aluminium enclosure that mounts on a DIN rail, wall, or flat surface. The RUT901 is the direct successor to the RUT950 and RUT951, carrying forward a trusted industrial feature set with an updated hardware platform and expanded protocol support. The RUT901 runs RutOS, Teltonika’s Linux-based operating system, which includes VPN support (OpenVPN, IPsec, WireGuard, L2TP, PPTP), MQTT broker and publisher, Modbus TCP, DNP3, and a full firewall suite. It supports VPN on cellular routers for secure remote access to SCADA systems, IP cameras, and PLCs. The router is fully compatible with Teltonika RMS for centralised remote monitoring and management across fleets of devices.Key Features4G LTE Cat 4 – 150 Mbps downlink / 50 Mbps uplink; automatic 3G and 2G fallbackUK and EU LTE band coverage including B1, B3, B5, B7, B8, B20 (800 MHz) and B28 (700 MHz) for rural and semi-rural sitesDual Mini SIM (2FF) with auto-failover triggered by weak signal, data limit, SMS limit, roaming, network denial, or connection failureOptional eSIM support (order-code dependent) – see eSIM router guide2.4 GHz Wi-Fi 4 (802.11b/g/n) with hotspot and captive portal functionality4x Fast Ethernet RJ45 (10/100 Mbps) – 1x configurable WAN, 3x LAN1x Digital Input, 1x Digital Output on the 4-pin power connector for industrial signalling9-30 VDC power input; passive PoE input on LAN1 portRutOS with OpenVPN, IPsec, WireGuard, MQTT, Modbus TCP, DNP3, SNMP, TR-069Teltonika RMS compatible; -40 to 75°C operating temperature; IP30; DIN rail readyWhat the RUT901 Is Used ForSCADA and Industrial AutomationThe RUT901 provides cellular WAN connectivity to SCADA systems, PLCs, and remote terminal units (RTUs) at substations, pumping stations, and water treatment sites. Modbus TCP and DNP3 support mean it connects directly into existing industrial protocols. Dual SIM failover keeps telemetry links active if the primary network goes down.EV Charge Point NetworkingEV charge point operators use the RUT901 to backhaul OCPP data from roadside and car park chargers to central management platforms. The router’s DIN rail mounting fits standard charge point enclosures. B28 (700 MHz) band support improves signal reliability at out-of-town locations with patchy coverage.CCTV and Remote Site MonitoringSecurity integrators use the RUT901 to connect IP cameras and NVRs at remote or temporary sites where a fixed line is unavailable. An IPsec or OpenVPN tunnel over a fixed IP SIM gives the monitoring centre direct access to the camera network without exposing it to the public internet.Retail and Payment TerminalsRetail sites and pop-up locations use the RUT901 as a primary or failover connection for EPoS and card payment terminals. The dual SIM failover activates automatically if the primary SIM loses connectivity, keeping transactions running without manual intervention.Smart Metering and UtilitiesThe digital I/O on the RUT901’s power connector allows it to read alarm states and digital signals from meters, sensors, and field equipment. Combined with MQTT publishing to cloud platforms such as ThingWorx and Cumulocity, it suits AMI and smart grid edge connectivity applications.Temporary and Construction SitesSite offices, welfare units, and portable security cabins use the RUT901 as a plug-in 4G router providing Wi-Fi and wired LAN to site personnel. The wide 9-30 VDC input range allows power from vehicle batteries or solar systems. DIN rail mounting means clean installation in a small enclosure.Frequently Asked QuestionsDoes the RUT901 support dual SIM?Yes. The RUT901 has two Mini SIM (2FF) card slots. The router switches between SIMs automatically based on configurable triggers including weak signal, data limit, SMS limit, roaming detection, network denial, and connection failure. SIM idle protection is also supported. If you need a UK SIM, see our IoT SIM cards page for fixed IP and roaming options.Does the RUT901 support eSIM?eSIM is available as an option on certain RUT901 order codes. It is not included on all variants. Check the specific part number before ordering if eSIM is a requirement. For more on how eSIM works with cellular routers, see our eSIM router explainer. (RUT901 With UK PSU, Without eSIM RUT901000600, RUT901 with eSIM (with EU PSU) RUT901020000)What is Teltonika RMS and does the RUT901 support it?Teltonika RMS (Remote Management System) is a cloud-based platform for monitoring, configuring, and troubleshooting Teltonika routers remotely. The RUT901 is fully RMS-compatible. An RMS licence is required and sold separately. See our Teltonika RMS guide for more detail on what it covers. What LTE bands does the RUT901 support and does it cover 700 MHz?The European variant of the RUT901 supports LTE-FDD bands B1, B3, B5, B7, B8, B20, and B28, plus LTE-TDD bands B38, B40, and B41. B28 is the 700 MHz band used by EE, Vodafone, and Three in the UK for rural and indoor coverage. Many lower-cost 4G routers omit B28, which causes connectivity problems at semi-rural and fringe-coverage sites. The RUT901 includes it.What VPN protocols does the RUT901 support?RutOS on the RUT901 supports OpenVPN, IPsec (IKEv1 and IKEv2, up to 4 tunnels), WireGuard, L2TP, PPTP, SSTP, and Tinc. It also supports ZeroTier and stunnel. For remote access to IP cameras, PLCs, and SCADA equipment, IPsec or OpenVPN over a fixed IP SIM is the most common configuration. See our VPN on cellular routers guide.Does the RUT901 support Docker containers? No. Docker container support is exclusive to the RUTC series (RUTC40, RUTC41, RUTC50). If edge computing or containerised application deployment is a requirement, the Teltonika RUTC40 is the alternative to consider.Related Products and Further ReadingFor higher-performance 4G with Wi-Fi 6 and eSIM, see the Teltonika 4G router range. If signal strength is marginal at your site, an external antenna will improve throughput and reliability – see our 4G antenna range. For remote access over a VPN tunnel, a fixed IP SIM card is recommended alongside this router. For background on key RUT901 features, see our guides on VPN on cellular routers and Teltonika RMS.
